Hello there, I’m moving my website to Tumblr: klasien.tumblr.com.
I’m still updating this Tumblr page with my recent work but it will be finished very soon!

The love of Post-its

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

Today I bumped into this website: www.postitwar.com.
It’s a photo share website from France, asking you to take pictures of your ‘Post-it war’. It’s fun to collect all these nerdy ‘pixel art’ images (probably a lot from UX offices) in one site.

Time lapse music video

Really nice time-lapse video! I found this today on the www.wahwah.fm blog. André Chocron created this video for the band Cold Maliman.

Redesign website De Kijkruimte

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

De Kijkruimte is a cultural research platform in Amsterdam Noord. It is a house situated in the middle of a residential area where different artists and researchers will come to live and work.
My friends offered me workspace and in exchange I helped them by redesigning their website www.kijkruimte.nl.

Best to check out the new design (and their projects) live: www.kijkruimte.nl

The power of shuffle

Monday, September 27th, 2010

The content on the web is growing… fast. To be able to control the content you read or view on the web you have some options. You can make a selection of sites you trust, with editors who will make a selection of information that’s in your field of interest. It’s like a newspaper but with more possibilities like video, links, interaction, etc.
Another option is to shuffle through content so you let the ‘machine’ decide what you will see or read. For example you wake up in the morning and you don’t want to think about which song you want to listen to. We all know the shuffle (or more advanced, genius) button in our iTunes or MediaPlayer. What is interesting about using this is that you can rediscover your own collection of music or hear a song you forgot about.

Streetview shuffle
This is a nice example of using shuffle in content on the web, the content of Google Maps Streetview. MTI student, Joseph G. McMichael, made this site that transports you to a random spot somewhere across the world and it’s called ‘Globe Genie’: http://web.mit.edu/~jmcmicha/www/globegenie/

It’s very interesting because it takes you to places in the world you have never heard of, forgot about or never realized it’s that beautiful or… ugly. Nice way to randomly pick your next holiday destination.

Music shuffle
To keep track of all new music online there is this great website called www.shuffler.fm. This website shuffles through all musicblogs and plays the music while it shows the blogpost with information about this new artist. You can choose several categories so you are more sure you will hear and read about music is in your interest.

Of course Last.fm has a shuffle function on their website for years. Bad thing is you need to pay for usage, set up an account and use the scrobbling functions on the programs you use to play music to collect the data of music you and your friends are listening to. In the end this shuffle is more explicit then shuffler.fm because it’s based on your personal taste in stead of using categories. The information about the artist is based on the Wiki idea.
